Sometimes, creation comes from the available equipment. I recently upgraded my copy of Ableton Live. While I am not, in any way, an obsessive when it comes to music making gear, playing with some new synth sounds in this update naturally led to improvisations on which these pieces are based. Which is a little unusual for me, as I normally start with ideas then see how I can make the sounds needed. I've also been reading some histories of 20th century 'classical' music and become enamoured of alternative scales, particularly the octatonic and whole tone ones. So they've seeped in as well.
