about

Over the last few years, Andy Rantzen's solo work has been sliding down a slope of gritty minimalism, with his last two solo albums, 'The Master Drummer' and 'Let Them All In' pushing grainy electronics into dark, subdued soundscapes for Rantzen's spoken word vocals to roam. Here, he goes even further, using a ukulele as his sound source. Of course, Rantzen is an avowed non-player of any instrument, so the ukulele is used to extract tiny samples which are looped and processed, with electronic rhythm reinforcements thrown in. While still darkly moving, there is a new clarity as the sounds are stripped back even further than before.
